Every drummer knows that the snare is a principal instrument in his drum kit. Not only is it the most played on the drum in all but also has important work to cut through the noise and chaos of a show so that each of the other group members in the audience can clearly discern beat. With thousands of snare drums available on the market today, selecting a drum suitable for your needs can be a task difficult, but it is much easier if you keep the following three attributes in mind: diameter, depth, and Shell Material. While there are certainly Other factors that can make a difference, nailing all three should get you over 80% of the road.
Diameter Diameter to those who need to brush up on geometry, is simply the distance across a circle through the middle. Translated into a drum, it means the distance around the drum rim to rim, through the middle of the head. Snares can be classified in groups following diameters:
Diameter is the main determinant of height for a single drum – in other words, smaller barrels higher than its diameter shafts of larger diameter, other things being equal. So if you want a high trap drum sound you are looking for a popcorn or Piccolo snare. For a more typical snare sound, you limit your search to one type trap.
Depth The depth of a drum, simply refers to its height when placed trap down on one foot or the floor. As the diameter depth may also affect the height of a drum, with deeper drums having a height slightly lower. But the greatest attribute important is influenced by a deep drum is its ability to project sound, or its "power". Deeper drums have more power. In other words, it is easier to hear a deep drum from the back row of the theater. Battery shallow lack that power, but is catching up in clarity of tone.
A true Piccolo snare drum, therefore, is that 12-13 "diameter and no deeper than 4.5 ". It is possible to have a profound Piccolo Snare (also called" Power Piccolo "), as it is possible to have diameter standard snare is also shallow. It will have a lower pitch, but a tone quite clear to her that may be just right for an orchestral work jazz and some applications.
Shell Material Entire books have been written on snare drum materials of the envelope, but the subject can be decomposed into two main parts: the shell of wood and metal shells.
